Eton Myers: 3D models of objects

To make use of these models you need to download and install the Open Source (free) MeshLab application. This application is available for Windows, Linux (src) and Mac OS X (Intel only). Version 1.2.3a has been tested and is available here. Later versions (those from v1.3.0 onwards) do not appear to have an option to open an OBJ file so please use an earlier version.   

Associated with each object is a ZIP file that contains at least three files that make up the 3D model. All files are required to render the model in MeshLab.  Unpack the files into the same folder (splitting the files may result in a loss of texture information).   If you do not have a suitable utility to unzip the files, check here for an Open Source Windows utility.  A cross-platform tool suitable for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux is available here.

Once the files have been extracted and MeshLab has been installed you will be able to view the model.  Load MeshLab which will automatically begin the "open file" search.  Navigate to the folder which contains the extracted 3D model data and select the only visible (OBJ) file (e.g. ECM1836.obj), then click "open".

Two versions of each model are supplied: a low resolution model (between 1 and 11 MB in size) and a high resolution model (between 2 and 28 MB in size).
